New Kenya Secondary School Subjects Grouping: Looking for the New KCSE Grading System or the new compulsory subjects in secondary schools? In the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education {KCSD}, students’ grades will be determined in a different way as unveiled by the Education Cabinet Secretary. Below is the KCSE 2023 Grading System

In the new Kenya Secondary School Subjects Grouping/ KCSE subject groups there are TWO compulsory subjects plus FIVE  other best-performed subjects as shown below

2. English, Kiswahili,  Kenyan Sign Language {One best Performed Language}

In the previous Kenya Secondary School Subjects Grouping there were FIVE mandatory subjects across three cluster groups – Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, two sciences, and one humanity as shown below

N/B: Selection of the SEVENTH SUBJECT: Candidates select the 7th Subject from the remaining subjects in GROUPS II, III, IV, or V

Conclusion: New Kenya Secondary School Subjects Grouping

The new subject grouping will increase the number of students qualifying for universities, Diploma, and Certificate courses.  The previous system disadvantaged some learners whose best-performing subject was not considered if not within the clusters.
