Christmas in the Savannah: Tello’s Journey to the Snow
Tello’s Journey to the Snow is a delightful story. It reminds young readers that the best Christmas gifts are not so much on things we have or where we are. The joy of Christmas is found in love, friendships, and the joy of being together.
In one of the most beautiful African savannah lived a lion cub named Tello. He loved listening to stories of travellers who spoke of a Christmas. A season filled with jingle bells, twinkling lights, and falling snow. Every time Tello heard these stories, he could almost see it in his mind. He imagined snowflakes landing softly on his fur.
But Tello’s home was in the savannah. Christmas in Savannah came with sunshine, laughter, and dancing. Year after year, not a single snowflake was ever seen!
Even though Tello knew this, he had a dream. “Just once,” he whispered, “I want to see snow for Christmas.”
As Christmas drew near, Tello shared his dream with two of his friends. Lulu the zebra, and Tajji the elephant. Tajji said, “If you want to see snow, you’ll have to go where snow lives!”
Lulu’s answered and said. “I heard there’s a mountain far away with snow on its top, even when the savannah is hot!”
Tajji lifted his trunk and pointed towards a mountain far away. “That must be Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. If we climb high enough, we will surely see snow.”
Tello’s was filled with so much excitement. “Then let’s go! Let’s find the snow before Christmas!.”Early the next morning, the three friends started the journey to Mt Kilimanjaro. They walked past the big trees, small shrubs, crossed rivers, and from afar they could see the mountain.
Along the way, they met other animals who cheered them on. Whenever they felt lost, they asked the friendly giraffes for help. With their long necks, the giraffes could see far above the tall trees and point the way to the mountain. For three days, they travelled across the land. At night, they slept under the twinkling stars, told funny stories, and sang songs to keep their hearts cheerful.
Finally, they reached the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. It looked so tall it touched the clouds! Tello was so curious to see the snow. He couldn’t wait to climb the mountain. When they started climbing the mountain the paths were enjoyable to pass through. But once they climbed higher paths became more steep and rocky. Tajji was the one who noticed that as they climbed higher the air grew thinner and colder.
The three friends cheered one another. Often Tello cheered his friends on by saying, . “We’ve come so far! Just a few more steps and we will see the snow. Let’s not give up. Snowflakes began to fall down from the sky. The tiny white specks landed softly on their fur. Tello shouted with joy. “It’s snow! Real snow!” The friends laughed and danced as more snow fell. It was the coldest Christmas Eve they had ever experienced.
The next morning, they looked down the mountain and saw the golden savannah far below. Their home was glowing under the bright sun.
They began their journey back home. By the time they reached home, everyone was in a joyful Christmas mood. The village animals were singing, and drums were beating so loud. The baobab tree were well decorated with flowers, and fruits. Tello looked around. No snow, no cold winds, just laughter, song, and the warmth of his friends and family. He realized that true joy of Christmas isn’t in what we see but it is in who we share it with.
