Meru School is a National School in Meru County, situated along the MeruโMaua Road in Imenti North District. The school has a student population of 1,206, supported by 62 qualified teachers and 35 members of the support staff.
The school was established in 1956 as a sister institution to Meru Teachers College. It initially admitted twenty-two students drawn from the wider Meru District, Central Province, and Northeastern Province.
In 1958, Meru School enrolled six girls, making it a mixed school until 1961, when the girls transferred to the present-day Kaaga Girls High School.
With the introduction of Kenyaโs 8-4-4 education system in 1985, Meru School presented its first candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in 1989.
From then on, the school began admitting form one students who had completed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Currently as a national schools it is admitting grade 10 students from every part of country
