How to Replace Lost KCSE/KCPE Certificate

Losing your KCSE or KCPE certificate can be stressful, especially when it’s needed for job applications, further studies, or official verification. Fortunately, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has streamlined the process for replacing lost certificates through a convenient online system. Here are the steps to apply for a new KNEC certificate after losing the original:

1.Visit the KNEC Portal

Go to gmis.knec.ac.ke and create an account. Login credentials will be sent to your email.

2.Log in to Your Account

Use the credentials received in your email to access the portal.

3.Select the Lost Certificate Option

From the menu, choose the “Lost certificate” tab.

4.Fill in Examination Details

Enter your index number, the type of examination, and the year you sat the exam. Then click “FIND” to retrieve your records.

5.Upload Required Documents

You must upload:

A copy of the result slip or lost certificate

Copies (both sides) of your national ID

A recent passport-size photo

A police abstract explaining the loss

A three-page confirmation from the registrar of persons, which includes:

A confirmation letter

The fingerprint page

The back page with personal details

6.Obtain Confirmation from Registrar of Persons

In Nairobi: Visit the NSSF building in Upper Hill

Outside Nairobi: Visit your nearest sub-county registrar of persons office

7.Submit Application Online

Once all documents are uploaded, submit your application through the portal and wait for verification.

8.Make Payment

After verification, KNEC will notify you via email. Log back in and pay the required fee of Ksh 5,220.

9.Track Your Application

10.Collect Your Certification Letter
