Open University of Kenya: Courses, Fees Structure, Admission: The charter for the Open University of Kenya (OUK) was granted on August 3, 2023, by His Excellency, President Dr. William Ruto. The university aims to dismantle traditional barriers and create opportunities for a broader segment of the Kenyan population to pursue higher education flexibly and conveniently

The process for applying for admission to the Open University of Kenya commenced on August 28, 2023, via the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal.

Open University of Kenya Fees Structure

Degree Cost is Ksh. 105,000, except for Bachelor of Technology Education which will cost KSh. 115,000 per year for full-time study.

Postgraduate diploma program will cost Ksh. 110,000 for the one academic year.

Course Duration

Postgraduate programs: one year

Bachelor’s degree: four years

Both degree and postgraduate diploma programs have between 12 and 14 course units per academic year.

NB: For open and self-paced learning, a student may decide to take a course unit at a time on the alternative flexible mode and may plan to take longer periods.

Open University of Kenya Qualifications requirement

 The minimum entry requirements for Bachelor’s degree programs are as follows:

  1. A mean grade of C+ and above at KCSE where applicable or its equivalent using criteria that the university senate may determine OR
  2. Diplomas or professional qualifications from recognized institutions OR
  3. KCSE certificate or equivalent and a certificate of foundation or bridging courses from recognized institutions OR
  4. Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with a minimum of 1 principal and subsidiary passes OR
  5. A bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by Senate, OR
  6. Evidence of KCSE certificate or equivalent and a portfolio for the purpose of recognition of prior learning determination with respect to:
  1. Workplace training of 2 years OR
  2. Work experience in a relevant field of 2 years OR
  3. Two short courses lasting at least 3 months each in relevant fields OR
  1. Any other qualifications that may be determined by senate recognizing prior learning leading to equivalents of the identified criteria, experience and skills of learners.
