Kisumu Maritime Centre

Kisumu Maritime Centre Limited is established as a training centre for Maritime human resources and Consultancy on maritime affairs. The Centre is registered as a Limited Company under the Companies Act, Chapter 486, Law of Kenya. The centre was incorporated on March 27, 2013 under Certificate of Incorporation.

The Centre’s solution focuses on meeting the training needs of Maritime labour and providing consultancy services to the shipping fraternity. Ninety percent (90%) of world trade carried by ships and they must be operated by well personnel hence the need to set up Kisumu Maritime Centre as an institution of training in this field.

For the first time ever, the people in this area will be able to access maritime education and training at their door steps. This will be accompanied by the centre being managed by professional in the maritime field.

This training is not available in the region and the centre is the first one of its kind and intend to produce skilled maritime human resource for the industry and helping by empowering them in their socie-economic development.

Concept
The Mission of Kisumu Maritime Centre is to provide young Kenyans with maritime education and training for improving their skills for the maritime labour market. They will be trained to the International standards as laid down by International Maritime Convention on training of seafarers commonly referred to as Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping of Seafarers (STCW Convention ) which requires that every body working aboard ships, boats and any other water craft must have proscribed training which entails the following :-

•    Personal Survival Technique
•    Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
•    Basic First Aid
•    Basic Fire Fighting
•    Seamanship and Navigation
•    Protection of the Maritime Environment
•    Awareness of HIV/AIDS pandemic
•    Awareness of Drug and Alcohol Abuse.

Rationale of these courses is for individual to survive when accidents occur at sea or in the water of Lake Victoria and other navigable water and the responsibility of the individual to others in the same ship, boat or water craft.
